Empowering women & gnc with the power of code.
Devi-Labs is a non-profit whose mission is to provide accessible and low-cost programming classes to local communities. We strive to educate women and gnc (gender non-conforming) folks about computer science, in a safe supportive environment resulting in their personal growth and empowerment. Our classes are geared toward beginners and are taught by industry professionals who will also act as mentors throughout their technology journey.
Devina helped start the UIC chapter of Girls Who Code (GWC) during her time as Women in Computer Science (WICS) President in 2013. The program started with 10 eager students. Now, in 2022, the program has taught over 240 girls and continues to support students through internship, mentorship, and scholarship.
Devina had been an instructor with GWC for 6 years and has educated students on Python, Javascript, and Cybersecurity.
It is the passion of these students and student mentors that allowed her to consider Devi-Labs and its future.
